The Museum on the Rim, located right on the rim of the Crater is one of the first of its kind, housing interactive displays containing information about meteorites, asteroids, impact cratering mechanics and the formation of Meteor Crater. There is a big screen theater showing the movie Collisions and Impacts. Also, there are three different lookout points to view the Crater. This best-preserved and first-proven meteorite impact site is nearly a mile across, 2.3 miles in circumference and over 550 feet deep, as tall as a 60-story building. The topographical terrain of Meteor Crater so closely resembles that of the Earth's Moon and other planets, NASA designated it as an official training site for the Apollo Astronauts and it has been the setting for the movie Star Man and numberous documentaries. One reel in this set is devoted to Meteor Crater and the other 2 reels show the beauty and splendor of the surrounding northern Arizona region.
