STAR TREK Season #2 Episode #19 "A Private Little War" (1968) (Series Episode # 48 / Production Episode #045) Lenticular Postcard Star Trek, “The” science fiction television series created by Gene Roddenberry that aired from September 8, 1966 through September 2, 1969. Though the original program was simply titled Star Trek, it has acquired the retronym Star Trek: The Original Series. Set in the 23rd century, the original Star Trek follows the adventures of the Starship Enterprise and its crew, led by Captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner), his First Officer Mr. Spock (Leonard Nimoy), and his Chief Medical Officer Leonard McCoy (DeForest Kelley). William Shatner's voice-over introduction during each episode's opening credits stated the starship's purpose: “ Space... the Final Frontier. These are the voyages of the Starship Enterprise. Its five-year mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new civilizations, to boldly go where no man has gone before.” Season #2, Episode 19: A Private Little War Original Air Date - February 2, 1968 Although it reads 1967 on the card, which is when it was produced, it didn't air until early 1968. Kirk returns to the planet Neural that he had spent time 13 years before. A friend of his from his previous visit is now leader of his people. While trying to uphold the Federation's prime directive, the Klingons are providing more advanced technology to their enemies. Kirk is with McCoy, both disguised as local natives to blend in. Suddenly the two are attacked by a Mugato (pronounced "mugatu"), a horned gorilla-like creature. The beast bites Kirk, injecting him with poison before McCoy can kill it with his phaser. McCoy is unable to call for help since the Enterprise has moved out of communication range. Mail this Lenticular flip postcard to your favorite Trekkie or buy one from yourself.
